Republicans on the right,  the wingnuts and loons have no idea what religion
is all about in practice.  They have lost any claim to being first in
religion just as they have lost any sense of fiscal responsibility to greed.
And I am not in favor of gay rights,  I am just tolerant of them up to a
civil point.

Back when the Democrats were a relevant party, they prided themselves on
their religious tolerance. That all changed about 10 or so years ago.

The extreme left became a force back in the in ’70s, forcing
out the older FDR types that were made up of socially conservative
workers and farmers.  As the extreme left had a large number of
college grads (the Vietnam War did us a favor by encouraging
kids to go to college), they displaced the workers within the party.

Then in the ’80s the yuppies started pushing out the left wing extremists.
Between both, there was no place for the working class democrats.  The
extreme left has big issues with religion, if for no other reason than it is
a
force that rivals their belief systems.  That also has pushed away the more
socially conservative working class democrats.

Look for a true Labor Party to rise up, maybe from the ashes of the
Reform Party.  Many union leaders have told me that they feel that it
is only a matter of time before there will be a Labor Party to represent
the views of the 70 percent of the population that is working class (non
college educated).

Perhaps because he’s concerned that the Democrat who might replace
Helms would be even worse.
